The Air 9 RDO is a thoroughbred – a no-nonsense instrument built for speed and performance. An extension of our form-follows-function philosophy, no curve is out of place on the newest Niner. And while looks are important, true attraction begins as soon as you push on the pedals and the Air 9 RDO goes flat out.
REFINED DESIGN
The Air 9 RDO is specifically intended as a geared racing bike. With this in mind we referred to the purposeful lines of the Air 9 Carbon but reduced diameters and trimmed profiles throughout. Compared to the CYA bottom bracket shell of the Air 9 Carbon, the smaller PF30 shell of the Air 9 RDO suggested smaller junctions and negated the need for an alloy insert. The rear brake mount is tucked inside the curving stays to distribute twisting forces evenly, permitting smaller caliper mounts and decreased wall thicknesses. Even the headset races in the headtube are molded carbon - we shaved grams wherever we found them. The net result? A 1125g Niner frame that is going to knock your socks off.
TAPERED HEADTUBE
The benefits of a tapered headtube aren’t just for riders of long travel bikes. XC racers and riders also see significant advantages, which is why we incorporate the technology in all our new frames. By using the newest tapered steerer suspension forks, we create the stiffest front end possible – leading to increased steering precision as you carve a corner and descend toward the finish line. The integrated headset used in the Air 9 RDO is light and simple. Installation, cleaning and maintenance take seconds rather than minutes, a boon to anyone who queues up at the starting line without a team mechanic.
PF30 BOTTOM BRACKET
There are several BB standards to choose from – for our dedicated geared only race bike we like PF30. It’s compatible with any BB30 crankset (as well as standard threaded BB systems, with an adapter) and the bearing cups are delightfully easy to install. The oversized 30mm spindle is light and resists the torque of even the mightiest Ninerds. Oversized bearings spin longer and smoother between overhauls. The plastic cups of the PF30 BB system don’t require a machined aluminum bottom bracket shell insert, allowing a minimalist carbon construction.

In Einklang mit unserer „form follows function“ Philosophie ist kein Bogen und keine Carbonmatte zu viel an unserem neuesten Niner Bike. VERFEINERTES DESIGN
Das Air 9 RDO wurde speziell als reinrassiges Racebike entwickelt. Mit diesem Gedanken im Hinterkopf, haben wir uns an die zweckmäßigen Linien des Air 9 Carbon CYA gehalten aber die Durchmesser und Profile durchweg auf optimale Performance und geringes Gewicht getrimmt.
Verglichen mit dem CYA-Tretlagergehäuse des Air 9 Carbon CYA ist das Press-Fit 30 Innenlagergehäuse des Air 9 RDO kompakter und leichter. Durch dieses Design entfällt die Notwendigkeit für einen Aluminiumeinsatz, was zu einer deutlichen Gewichtsreduzierung führt.
Die hintere Bremsaufnahme sitzt versteckt zwischen geschwungenen Hinterbaustreben, welche die Torsionskräfte besser verteilen und eine leichtere Konstruktion mit dünnerer Wandstärke ermöglicht. Sogar die Integrierten Steuersatzschalen sind aus Carbon – wir haben Gewicht eingespart, wo wir konnten.
Das Resultat ist der ultimative Hochleistungsrahmen mit nur 1.125 g Gewicht.
KONISCHES STEUERROHR
Die Vorteile eines konischen Steuerrohrs beziehen sich nicht nur auf Bikes mit längeren Federwegen. Auch bei Cross-Country-Bikes gibt es bedeutende Vorteile, weshalb wir diese Technologie auch in allen unseren neuen Rahmen verwenden. Gabeln mit konischen Gabelschäften führen zu deutlich verwindungssteiferen Frontsektionen, welches die Lenkpräzision steigern und insbesondere in Kurven und den entscheidenden Momenten für ein sicheres Handling sorgen.
Der integrierte Steuersatz, der im Air 9 RDO verwendet wird, ist leicht und einfach zu warten. Zur Installation, dem Säubern und der Wartung benötigt man nur Sekunden statt Minuten. Ein großes Plus an Zeit für alle, die nicht mit einem eigenen Mechaniker an der Startlinie erscheinen.
PRESS-FIT 30 INNENLAGER
Es gibt mehrere Tretlagerstandards, aber für unser reinrassiges Racebike, haben wir uns für das Press-Fit-30 System (PF30) entschieden. Der PF30 Standard ist mit jeder BB30 Kurbelgarnitur kompatibel, und die Installation der Lagerschalen gestaltet sich erfreulich einfach. Die Oversized- Achse der Kurbel ist leicht und widersteht auch den kräftigsten Tritten der stärksten Ninerds. Die großen Lager laufen extrem leicht und sind um vieles langlebiger als bei anderen Innenlagertypen. Die Schalen des verstärkten Kunststoffgehäuses des PF30 Innenlagersystems benötigen keinen Aluminiumtretlagereinsatz, was eine minimalistische Carbon-Konstruktion zulässt. Zur Verwendung von Shimano Hollowtech Kurbeln mit anderen Achsdurchmessern stehen sehr leichte Spezialadapter zur Verfügung.
INTERNE KABELFÜHRUNG
Ein neues Steuerrohrabzeichen aus Aluminium macht die Montage einer durchgehenden Schalthülle möglich, welches Schaltzugwechsel vereinfacht und die Züge vor den Elementen schützt.
GEWICHTSERSPARNIS
Ist es leichter als das Niner Air 9 Carbon? Ja, ein ganzes Stück sogar. Das Niner Air 9 RDO wiegt durchschnittlich 1.125g bei einem Medium-Rahmen (ohne Sattelklemme und Schutzfolie am Unterrohr). Das ist eine Gewichtsersparnis von 250 g im Gegensatz zu seinem Bruder. Wenn Du so schnell wie möglich von A nach B gelangen möchtest, dann solltest Du ein Bein über den neuen NINER Air 9 RDO Rahmen werfen.

MIGLIORAMENTO DEL DESIGN

Anche i supporti atti ad ospitare la serie sterzo sono realizzati in carbonio – abbiamo eliminato grammi su grammi; ovunque fosse possibile. Il risultato finale? Un telaio da 1125gr pronto a stupirti.
TUBO STERZO CONIFICATO
I benefici di un tubo sterzo conificato non si fanno sentire solo sulle biciclette a lunga escursione, ma anche i XCountristi possono beneficiarne e questo è il motivo per il quale abbiamo implementato tale tecnologia su tutti i nostri nuovi telai. Utilizzando forcelle con cannotto conico, siamo in grado di ottenere la massima rigidità dell’avantreno – che comporta la massima precisione di guida quando si affrontano le curve e ci si proietta verso la linea del traguardo. La serie sterzo di tipo integrata, utilizzata sulla Air 9 RDO, è minimale e leggerissima; la sua installazione, pulizia e manutenzione richiedono un paio di secondi; un dettaglio non trascurabile per tutti quelli che si presentano al via senza avere l’assistenza di un meccanico.
MOVIMENTO CENTRALE PF30
Per quanto concerne i movimenti centrali, ci sono diversi standard fra cui scegliere – per il nostro mezzo dedicato alle competizioni abbiamo scelto il PF30. Tale movimento è compatibile con qualunque guarnitura con standard BB30 (e mediante adattatori con qualunque guarnitura per movimento centrale di tipo filettato) e le calotte sono molto facili da installare. Il perno della guarnitura, da ben 30mm, è leggero e resiste alle poderose pedalate di qualunque Ninerds.
I cuscinetti maggiorati ruotano senza impuntamenti ed hanno una lunga longevità. Le calotte in materiale plastico non richiedono l’utilizzo di una bussola filettata all’interno della scatola movimento centrale; permettendoci quindi di mantenere una struttura in carbonio minimalista.
PASSAGGIO CAVI INTERNO
Il badge posto sul tubo sterzo è stato rivisto, per permettere l’utilizzo di guaine senza interruzioni, in modo da semplificare la sostituzione dei cavi e di proteggerli dallo sporco.
UN RISPARMIO DI PESO CONCRETO
Questo mezzo è più leggero della Air 9 Carbon? Si, e non di poco. La Air 9 RDO in taglia media ha una massa di 1125gr (senza collarino reggisella e nastro protettivo sul tubo obliquo). In sostanza siamo sull’ordine dei 230gr in meno rispetto alla Air 9 Carbon. Se la tua filosofia è quella di arrivare dal punto A al punto B nel minor tempo possibile, allora dovresti provare la Air 9 RDO.
GEOMETRIA NINER DA HARDTAIL
Come più volte ribadito da numerose riviste, la geometria delle hardtail Niner è decisamente azzeccata. Sia in salita, che in discesa, la geometria della Air 9 regala grande precisione di guida e ottimo posizionamento in sella. La Air 9 RDO è concepita per forcelle da 80 – 100mm per permetterti di adattare il mezzo alle tue caratteristiche.
