Reynolds 853 is commonly considered the best steel tubeset on the planet, and Reynolds has not rested on their laurels. They have continually updated, refined, and improved the 853 tubeset to keep it on the pinnacle of the steel bike world. When Niner decided to design a do-it-all steel bike, Reynolds was the first place we went. Reynold's engineers were more than willing to collaborate on the project, and Niner and Reynolds worked hand in hand to find the right tubing for the right feel for every size frame. On the larger frames, special tubes had to be drawn for the added length needed in the tubesets. The MCR 9 frames are based off of the acclaimed SIR 9, but we still refined the design and looked for ways to reduce weight from every part of the frame. Once again, it was important for Niner to produce a light steel frame, but it was extremely important not to sacrifice ride quality.
